A college dropout becomes a babysitter to make some quick cash, and takes his three young charges on an epic urban adventure in this comedy from director David Gordon Green (George Washington, Pineapple Express). Josh Kovacs (Ben Stiller) adalah seorang pekerja keras. Bertahun-tahun ia bekerja mengawasi apartemen mewah itu sambil berharap suatu hari nanti ia bisa menikmati masa pensiun dengan tenang. Betapa kecewanya Josh saat ia sadar kalau ternyata salah satu penghuni apartemen mewah itu ternyata telah merampas masa depannya.
Saat ini Arthur Shaw (Alan Alda) berstatus sebagai tahanan rumah di puncak apartemen mewah tempat Josh Kovacs bekerja. Arthur dituduh telah menggelapkan uang senilai lebih dari US$2 miliar. Bukan berapa banyak uang yang telah digelapkan Shaw yang membuat Josh resah. Uang Josh ada di antara US$2 miliar itu. Yang lebih menyakitkan, ada kemungkinan Arthur Shaw bakal lolos dari semua tuduhan.
Waktu tinggal dua hari. Kalau dalam dua hari Josh tak berhasil mendapatkan uangnya kembali, maka artinya Josh tak akan punya masa depan lagi. Josh ternyata bukanlah satu-satunya korban Arthur Shaw. Hanya karakter Puss in Boots saja yang sudah pernah muncul di serial SHREK. Film ini memang jadi prekuel yang mengisahkan petualangan Puss in Boots sebelum ia bertemu Shrek.
